Dow Street Orchestras
All the orchestras described below are for stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello and bass). Students may spend more than one year in a specific ensemble before progressing to the next level. These ensembles are offered during the academic year, fall and spring semesters (12 weekly rehearsals plus a concert). Summer camps are offered separately by DSCMS. We welcome students taking lessons through DSCMS and students taking private lessons in the local community to participate. All groups will perform in a concert at the end of each semester.
Since Dow Street Orchestras are a full-semester commitment, tuition is based on participation for the entire semester, regardless of student absences. Students participating in sports or other extracurricular activities must declare their planned conflicts before the first rehearsal; placement in the group may be affected by excessive absences. The quality of the experience for every student relies on each member to commit fully and to attend rehearsals on time and well prepared.
Students will complete a short audition for acceptance and placement in the correct group level. In-person auditions are preferred, but in some cases video auditions will be accepted – send a request to info@dowstreetmusic.org for more details about video audition requirements.
